This Wilderness Voice is not intended to take anything away from Donald Trump’s unprecedented political comeback or extraordinary reelection to the White House. However, it is intended to tamper down the intemperate exuberance of MAGA Americans, who believe, as Trump has declared, that our God-forsaken nation is about to enter its “golden age.” The truth is; there are many a land mine in today’s MAGA Land.

To begin with, let’s remind ourselves that Donald Trump had the majority in both houses of Congress when he was elected to the presidency the first time. Yet, his agenda in 2016 was not just opposed by the opposing political party, but my members of his own political party as well, especially moderate Republicans who were elected in blue states. While it is still up in the air, as to whether or not Republicans will retain their slim majority in the House of Representatives, to go along with their four-vote majority in the Senate, one thing we know for sure, their razor thin House majority will once again be owed to moderates elected in blue states. As it was before, so it will be again, these moderates will oppose any conservative agenda for the sake of their political survival.

The above leads us to a couple of disconcerting questions, as well as to an upcoming omen, which will portend whether or not a new Republican controlled Congress will be as dysfunctional as the one we saw eight years ago. First, let’s consider the disconcerting questions. Number one, if Americans truly bemoan gridlock, why do they keep voting for it? Why do they vote Donald Trump into the White House and then Trump-hating Democrats into the United States Senate and House of Representatives? Doing so is as absurd as hitching your country’s wagon to two teams of horses heading in opposite directions. Obviously, the country will never get anywhere, but torn apart. 

The second question we need to ask ourselves is why Republicans, like Niki Haley, are so popular with so many Americans. Niki is a snake in the grass coiled and ready to strike at the heels of the MAGA Movement. She is the darling of the Never-Trumpers, the queen of the RINOs, and Fox News’ political sage, who is repeatedly asked on the network to critique all other political candidates. Though she is definitely the queen bee of the RINO’s hive, there are plenty of RINO drones and worker bees swarming around as well; all posed, like killer bees, to strike and sting to death the MAGA Movement as soon as possible.

The upcoming omen, which will portend whether or not a new Republican controlled Congress will be as dysfunctional as the one we saw eight years ago, will occur today, when Senate Republicans elect their new leader. If Mitch McConnell is replaced with a Mitch-like replacement, like John Cornyn or John Thune, rather than a Mitch-ditching Rick Scott, then, the status quo will be maintained and Senate Republicans will return to business as usual; that is, to the undermining of conservative causes for the sake of their own personal political careers and political party. Keep your eye on this election, for it will tell you much about what is to come.

One final land mine needing to be carefully watched for in MAGA Land is the already mounting resistance to Donald Trump’s presidency. You can bet your bottom dollar that deep state bureaucrats are already busy scheming throughout multiple government agencies about how they can undermine Trump’s second presidency, just as they did his first. For instance, reports are already surfacing from the bowels of the Pentagon on how officials there are presently plotting insubordination against their new Commander-in-Chief. In addition to this, numerous elected Democrats, such as state governors and attorney generals, are vowing to do everything in their power to sabotage the Trump Presidency. For instance, Phil Murphy, the Governor of a deep blue state, New Jersey, which was only lost by Trump by a mere 5% and within which Trump drew a crowd of over 100,000 people to a campaign rally, has vowed not only to resist Trump, but to do so in a “fight to the death.” 

As all of these land mines in MAGA Land prove, there are plenty of ways for today’s MAGA exuberance to quickly be blown away by one explosion after another. Contrary to current MAGA euphoria, there is no clear sailing ahead. Though MAGA Americans may believe they’ve hoisted the mainsail, our ship of state is still caught in the riptide amidst the rocky shoals.
