Many a contemporary Christian is being deceived by a concocted Americanized Christianity, within which love for country is confused with love for Christ and political activism with service to Christ. In the past, Christians in America, which was a Christian nation that served as a shining city on a hill for the whole world to see, equated allegiance to America with allegiance to Christ. Unfortunately, Christians in today’s America, which has become an antichrist nation that has not only outlawed any confession of Christ by its government, but is now outlawing the Christian convictions of its populace, are frozen in time. They act as though nothing has changed, as though allegiance to today’s antichrist America is the same as allegiance to yesterday’s Christian America.
At the time of Christ’s First Advent, the people of God missed the signs of the times over their looking for a political savior for their country—Israel. Likewise, today, at the time of Christ’s Second Coming, the people of God are missing the signs of the times over their looking for a political savior for our country—America.
Many modern-day evangelicals have idolized Donald Trump as America’s political savior, or at least as a stopgap on America’s road to destruction. Yet, as recent events have incontrovertibly proven, Trump is totally incapable of curbing the catastrophic natural, cultural, and spiritual forces currently cascading down on our country. No man, regardless of whether he is in the White House, the House of Representatives, a state house, a courthouse, a church house, or your house, can thwart our country’s downward spiral into its divinely preordained and biblically predicted end-time scenario.
Our country’s problem is spiritual, not political. It can neither be solved at the polls nor by politicians we elect to public office. Our only solution to our spiritual problem is to repent. We must turn from our sins with broken hearts and turn to Christ with all of our hearts!
John the Baptist was called by God to prepare Israel for Christ’s First Advent by preaching, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Likewise, today’s church has been called by God to prepare America, as well as the whole world, for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ by preaching, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” However, like first century Israel, twenty-first century America is spurning penitence and seeking instead a political salvation. As a result of rejecting the coming promised Savior in lieu of political solutions to our country's problems, present-day America, like ancient Israel, is destined to suffer the soon coming judgment of God!
