If you are a Christian, our midterm elections should serve as an omInous omen to you. America has not just lost its way, but its mind and its soul. We are a nation whose populace is predominately comprised by prodigal souls and spiritual reprobates. The vast majority of our countrymen are not just profane, but also practitioners, protagonists, and promoters of a plethora of putrid and perverse depravities. In light of this, we must conclude that it is the height of folly to believe that there is a political cure for our terminal spiritual condition. The malignant evil that is eating away at the soul of our nation cannot be remedied by a Democrat or a Republican nor by a ballot box or a ballot. Indeed, there is no remedy, since we've clearly passed a point of no return with God.
As our midterm election proves, it’s high time in America for the church to prepare for what lies ahead in this country. We can no longer afford to stick our heads in the sand and pretend that the band-aid of politics can heal the deadly disease of America’s spiritual degeneracy. Instead, we must face the hard and harsh fact that we have entered into the perilous times of the last days and presently stand on the precipice of Biblically predicted and unprecedented persecution.
In 1934, a German pastor, Martin Niemoller, bravely mounted the pulpit of his church and prophetically proclaimed God’s divine purpose in the pending and pitiless persecution of Christ’s church in Nazi Germany. The following is an excerpt of this brave pastor’s foreboding and fearless sermon.
“We have all of us—the whole Church and the whole community—we’ve been thrown into the Tempter’s sieve, and he is shaking and the wind is blowing, and it must now become manifest whether we are wheat or chaff! Verily, a time of sifting has come upon us, and even the most indolent and peaceful among us must see that the calm of a meditative Christianity is at an end…It is now springtime for the hopeful and expectant Christian Church—it is testing time, and God is giving Satan a free hand, so he may shake us up and so that it may be seen what manner of men we are…Satan swings his sieve and Christianity is thrown hither and thither; and he who is not ready to suffer, he who called himself a Christian only because he thereby hoped to gain something good for his race and his nation is blown away like chaff by the wind of time.”
Like the church in Germany in 1934, the church in America in 2022 finds itself being thrown into the Tempter’s sieve. The devil, to whom God has given a free hand in this country, is shaking us, and the wind of time is blowing us. Truly, the time of a calm and mediative Christianity, as well as the time of shallow spirituality and casual Christianity in carnal contemporary churches, is at an end, even for the most indolent and peaceful Christians among us. As the church in America is tested, sifted, and shaken, the wheat will be separated from the chaff and we will see what manner of men we really are. Are you ready to suffer for Christ’s sake or will you be blown away like chaff by the wind of the end times?
