It was upon his return from a 1938 meeting with Adolf Hitler in Munich that British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain naively declared to the world, "Peace in our time." Little did this naive ninny know that right on the heels of his declaration would follow the devastation of World War II. Since time immemorial our fallen world has been waving olive branches at evil, only to watch as evil carves those olive branches into sharp stakes to drive through the hearts of its voluminous victims. It was Albert Einstein who defined insanity as doing the same thing you've always done, but expecting a different result. Well, insanely, Israel, under public pressure, as well as coercion from us, is once again doing the same thing, but expecting a different result. It is being forced to wave an olive branch at Hamas, which Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas leader, is promising to carve into another October 7th terrorist attack as quickly as possible.
As I wrote in yesterday's Time Capsule, there was a time, not too long ago, when the civilized world adopted a nonnegotiable policy never to negotiate with terrorists. Every sane person understood that negotiating deals with terrorists did not deter terrorism, but only perpetuated it. Therefore, no deals were ever made with terrorists, lest terrorists be proliferated rather than annihilated. Today, however, everything has changed, deals are not only negotiated with terrorists, but terrorists are encouraged by these negotiated deals to continue to abduct hostages to use as bargaining chips to turn bargaining tables on terrorized negotiators. The one thing we can count on from Israel's concessions to Hamas for the release of held hostages is that Hamas will continue to abduct more hostages for more concessions in the future.
Tragically, our world today no longer understands that the only way to deal with evil is to destroy it! Evil cannot be placated, but must be eradicated. While Joe Biden proudly holds up this atrocious cease-fire agreement as a trophy of his failed and fleeting presidency, and while Donald Trump touts it as proof of his mastery of the art of the deal, I'm reminded of the Vietnam War, when 58,220 American soldiers lost their lives so that Washington DC politicians could save face. If you ask me, both Biden and Trump should be hanging their heads in shame for forcing Netanyahu to not only spare Hamas, but also to allow Hamas to reconstitute itself in Gaza and to reman itself with hundreds of released prisoners returned to its ranks by Israel.
To convince you of how atrocious this cease-fire agreement is, let me share with you just a few of its absurd atrocities. First, Hamas has now held its innocent hostages for 468 days. Second, of the 251 hostages initially taken by Hamas on October 7th, after the slaughter of more than 1,200 innocent Israelis, 94 are believed to still be held captive by Hamas. Third, of this 94, at least 34 are believed to be dead. Fourth, according to this cease-fire agreement, for every hostage Hamas releases, even if the hostage is handed over in a body bag, 30 Hamas or Palestinian prisoners, many of whom have murdered innocent Israelis, are to be released by Israel. Finally, if you add this up, this atrocious cease-fire agreement has the potential of awarding Hamas with the return of 2,820 jihad warriors to its ranks, all in exchange for the release of 94 captives or their corpses, which have now been inhumanly held by Hamas for 468 days. Obviously, the moral to this story is clear: EVIL PAYS! Therefore, our naive world will continue to pay the high and horrible cost of placating evil rather than eradicating it, which alone is the only solution to it.
